What To Do With The Freebie Stamp Set From Gina K Designs
I love it when stamping companies send free products with orders. Most of the time, I buy something to get the free item, but this time was a complete surprise! Yesterday my most recent Gina K Designs order arrived, and attached to the invoice was the Mini Blossoms Stamp Set. I don't always know what I will make when I enter my craft room, but I had a dream about how I would make these note cards for a dear friend of mine.
In the videos and photos I need to apologize for the light that is directly over my desk. I am learning and have an electrician coming to install better lighting in my craft room. Wahoo! I did try to use my hand to cover the reflection most of the time.
Let's make some cards! I cut a Neenah Classic Crest 110lb card stock sheet into four 4.25 x 5.5-inch pieces. Using my Mini-Misti, I started on the right and stamped the leaf set first. All of the inks I used are Gina K Designs Premium Dye Inks. I wanted to make these solid stamps act like layering stamps, so I applied Key Lime and then lightly touched Fresh Asparagus towards the bottom of each set of leaves. If I got heavy-handed, I would wipe the stamp slightly to remove excess ink. After stamping these two layers, I replaced the white card stock and repeated these steps. You can watch the video to get a better understanding of how I did this.
In the next step, I started placing the flowers where they fit best. This set all fits together so perfectly that you see where they work as soon as you begin to line them up. I stamped the first layer in Sweet Corn, covering the entire surface of the stamp. If you don't get perfect coverage, it's okay! The remaining colors will likely cover any areas that didn't get inked. Next, I swiped Peach Bellini from the flower base where it would naturally be darker and lifted the ink cube towards the middle of the stamp. Finally, I brushed Coral Reef just along the bottom of each flower to add dimension. The following video shows this technique, and you can see as soon as the stamp touches the paper just how little I used ink in the third step. Notice that sometimes that swiping technique actually causes lines of ink on the paper. I love that look!
I did add another flower to the left side at the bottom and a few leaves. It seemed like it needed a little something to balance out the card.
The sentiment "You Are The Best" is part of this freebie. I stamped each piece of card stock with VersaMark ink and embossed it with Brutus Monroe Gilded Embossing Powder. I completely messed one up, but I wiped off the embossing powder and heat set the ink. My sentiment stamp was still in the same place, so I simply used my anti-static powder tool (better this time) and reapplied the embossing powder. That worked!
Each sheet was cut down to 3.75 x 5 inches, mounted to Recollections Gold Foil card stock cut to 4 x 5.25 inches. To tie in the colors used in stamping, I chose Gina K Designs Red Velvet Heavy Weight card stock to mount to the card front. The final card measures 4.25 x 5.5 inches.
In the spirit of our Embellish Me This Giveaway that is happening on June 1st, 2021, I added some Studio Katia Apricot Pearls and little wooden butterflies that I found in my stash. I glued the embellishments using Gina K Designs Connect Glue, and there you have it! A simple set of four note cards to give as a small act of kindness gift for a dear friend.
